One can argue that Counter Strike is actually a less realistic simulation of combat because of the more deterministic game design. If you get to attack them three times as often as they get to attack you, you're gonna come out on top 95% of the time, and the other 5% will be so ridiculous that you'll still enjoy the sheer absurdity of it (well, unless somebody has a baton lodged in some part of their anatomy, but then they probably shouldn't be playing a game where some rule sheets use the word "estimate" anyway :P). Also, I think it's even more important in a collectible miniatures game, if ships always had fixed damage output, it would become pay-to-win pretty quickly, whereas the current system allows a lone Starviper to potentially defeat a whole army of decked out Ties.Īlso it's the kind of luck that can be mitigated by not sucking (As opposed to say Catan where I guess you can try to cover the spread, but there's no way to roll "better.") The real game comes in predicting your opponent's actions and outmaneuvering them.

Plus personally I'm not a fan of games that can devolve into robot chess, but that's just me.
Which people might bitch about, but it's a pretty important factor, as it stops people from getting frustrated and giving up on the game, and thus keeps new blood coming into the community. Well, there's the obvious bit that variance lets a less skilled player occasionally beat a more skilled player. Then the player moves on to the next phase. Once each person on each side of the game signs it, conflict is resolved and the next phase action can take place.Ĭoercion I imagine this way: when one person moves his or her piece into combat with another player, those players, choosing either nerf guns or nerf swords, wack at each other a bunch until conflict is resolved.
The committee will have two weeks to finalize the draft, vote on it, and take it back to the respective leaders to sign. Once the resolution reaches draft stage, it is taken to a joint committee, created by delegates and a third party members. I imagine the diplomacy system to work like this: once your pieces are put into a conflict with the enemy, you select a few of your closest friends as delegates to visit the other team's delegates to hash out a resolution. I think in combat games, there should either be a diplomacy system or a coercion system. Just that one is a lot more hyped and popular. (Boys with their toys and all that) Do guys want to play with birds flying around controlled by mice? Or do guys want to fly around the Millennium Falcon shooting down TIE-fighters making "pew pew pew" sounds after watching Episode 7? Doesn't mean Either game is better. And that's because it's in an unfair fight with X-Wing. The lack of negative reviews for Tail Feathers is probably because a general lack of reviews.
As long as you don't "have to have" every ship this isn't more expensive than many other boardgames that have expansions. Seriously the new core set is pretty cheap $25. You can also buy two core sets ($55 total) and call it a day and still have plenty to play with. As far as miniature games go it's actually one of the cheaper one's out there. For $100 you can have stupid fun with two large fleets of beautifully pre painted miniatures. I don't see how X-Wing is an absurd cost.
